This event is held to mark the launch of Data Journalism – Past, Present and Future, which is edited by John Mair, Richard Lance Keeble, Megan Lucero and Martin Moore. It is published by Abramis.

Join The Media Society and City Journalism for this exclusive event looking into the current state of play for data journalism. Speakers include:

  • Simon Rogers, Data Editor, Google News Lab
  • Carole Cadwalladr, Journalist, The Observer (tbc)
  • Rachel Oldroyd, Managing Editor, The Bureau for Investigative Journalism
  • Jonathan Hewett, City Journalism

Simon Rogers is a City Journalism graduate and the Magellan of Data Journalism. He has in the past decade pushed it to its frontiers, before becoming data editor for Google News Lab. He is also director of the Data Journalism Awards and has taught at The University of California in Berkeley. Previously he was Twitter’s first ever data editor, as well as creating the Guardian’s data blog, and being the launch editor of the Guardian’s website.

Carole Cadwalladr is a journalist on The Observer. She has exposed the use (or misuse) of data by Cambridge Analytics in elections in the USA and UK. Previously she worked for the Daily Telegraph.

Rachel Oldroyd is the managing editor for the Bureau of Investigative Journalism. Previously she worked for the Mail on Sunday.
