Oh yes, we’ll all be quite forgotten. It’s our fate, there’s nothing we can do about it. And all those things which matter to us, which seem so memorable, noble and fine … they’ll be forgotten as well. The interesting thing is that we don’t know what the future will think is noble and fine, and what it will think is not worth bothering about.
Chekhov’s masterpiece Three Sisters is performed with his infrequently produced theatrical vaudeville, Swan Song.
