The London Centre for Arts and Cultural Exchange hosted a private view and networking drinks event which highlighted the legacy of Benito Mussolini’s era in shaping the fashion industry. The exhibition, Fashion at the Time of Fascism, charted the fashion industry’s ambivalent negotiation of international couture and the bizarre dictates of Fascism, and was the first visual history of Modernist Italian fashion during Mussolini’s Fascist regime. The exhibition comprised of contemporary fashion, photography and magazines curated from a huge range of forgotten archival sources. Frances Corner, Head of the London College of Fashion, spoke about the College’s research themes and future plans, and there were opportunities for academics from all the LCACE partner Universities to network throughout the event.
