7th February, 2014 / 11.00am - 4.00pm
23rd September, 2013
“held“, a Photographic Exhibition by Jane Fradgley, will be on display at the MRC SGDP Centre in the Ground floor Atrium until the 27th of September 2013.
Open to all, “held” can be viewed from Monday – Friday between the hours of 09:00 – 17:00 at the MRC SGDP Centre, Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London.
This exhibition sees Jane Fradgley present selected images from “held“, her photographic series of historical restraining garments and strong clothing, all housed at the Bethlem Royal Hospital Archives & Museum.
These haunting photographs offer a unique perspective; a poetic documentation for contemplation with the added intention of contributing to a dialogue and debate around protection, restraint and chemical intervention in mental health care today.
The research, development and production of “held” was funded by Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity, with additional funding from Maudsley Charity and support from Plymouth Arts Centre. Jane Fradgley will also be launching a book about the project later this year.
