André Jolivet (1905-1974) was among the most influential composers of the last century, renowned for his combination of innovative language with expressions of the sacred and incantatory. Yet, the broader context of his compositional aesthetic has rarely been explored and vital processes of his musical construction have often been overlooked.

Dr Caroline Rae (Cardiff University), Professor Julian Anderson (Guildhall School) and Dr Caroline Potter (author and French music specialist) present new research investigating Jolivet’s style and technique to explore his placing within 20th-century music as a whole.
