Bayes Business School has been recognised as a Centre of Actuarial Excellence (CAE).

Awarded by the Society of Actuaries (SOA), one of the main actuarial professional bodies in the United States, the recognition allows universities and colleges with outstanding actuarial programmes the opportunity to compete for grants for education and research. This designation adds to Bayes’ long-standing accreditation by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK.

The Evaluation Committee said that “Bayes Business School’s setting and comprehensive variety of courses provide an outstanding basis for actuarial education”, adding that “the research produced by the Bayes Faculty is impressive in volume and depth.”

In being awarded this designation, Bayes met criteria related to: a) its actuarial degrees at BSc, MSc and PhD level, as well as its curriculum, graduate count and faculty composition; b) the graduate quality, appropriate integration with other areas of study, connection with industry as well as actuarial research and professional involvement; c) completing a series of interviews between a CAE site visit team and the Executive Dean, the Faculty members, undergraduate/postgraduate/doctoral students, alumni, employers, and advisory board members.

Dr Russell Gerrard, Head of the Faculty of Actuarial Science at Bayes, said:

“The achievement, ahead of our 50th year offering actuarial degrees, reinforces our position as a global hub for actuarial studies and intellectual capital development, and confirms our place as being a key player in the advancement of actuarial knowledge.”

Dr Ioannis Kyriakou, Director of the actuarial MSc programmes at Bayes, said:

“This recognition underlines that our students study actuarial science at a top-tier School with strong links to the profession, and they are well placed to advance actuarial knowledge and develop actuarial research.”
