In late 2006, Steven Wright murdered five women.
London Road is a verbatim musical that centres the serial killer’s neighbours: the residents of London Road, Ipswich. Using the exact words, rhythms, and intonations of interviews with members of the community, playwright Alecky Blythe and composer Adam Cork present a forensic account of how a group of ‘ordinary’ people experience the horror and frenzy of a high-profile crime.
In director Julia Locascio’s production, the operatic and the hyper-real meet in the intricately woven voices of the BA (Hons) Acting Musical Theatre students and the cinematic detail of the BA (Hons) Theatre Practice designers and technicians.
