Towards a global history of music: a project and its outlook
Speaker: Professor Reinhard Strohm (University of Oxford)
Musicians experience the shrinking of the world in a particular way. While global audiences are multiplying, local impact is harder to achieve, not least in the pandemic. The research project Towards a Global History of Music (2013-2017) has been exploring historical situations and tendencies in music worldwide.
Professor Reinhard Strohm presents the story of this research project, supported by the International Balzan Foundation, in which mid-career researchers and performers from three continents organised international workshops and pursued historical and ethnological studies in music.
