Rare-Books Librarian Dr Tabitha Tuckett will present a selection of 17th-century books – from poetry and fiction to philosophy and science –  that reveal the wide variety of topics expressed in Latin during the 17th century.

The exhibition will include an edition of Milton’s letters, a grammar of Coptic by the notorious Jesuit Athanasius Kircher, an early mention of acupuncture by the classical scholar Isaac Vossius, the hilarious play ‘Ignoramus’ by George Ruggle, as well as William Harvey’s renowned treatise De motu cordis.

Come and help us celebrate the start of the AHRC-funded research network on Baroque Latinity, directed by Prof Gesine Manuwald, Head of UCL’s Greek & Latin Dept, and co-directed by Dr Jacqueline Glomski, Honorary Senior Research Associate at UCL’s Centre for Editing Lives & Letters.
