For a second year in a row, a business student at the University of West London (UWL) has fought off tough competition to be appointed as an intern to The Mayor’s Entrepreneur Competition.

Now in his final year, Paing Khant will join a team of other young London students employed as interns to promote the competition, and on Wednesday evening he attended a function at City Hall to mark the start of the six-month internship. During his appointment, Paing will develop his professional skills through practical experience gained working on the competition.

The Mayor’s Entrepreneur Competition asks London’s students to create a smart business idea focused on the Environment, Tech, and Creative Industries sectors that will help improve the city in which we live. Entrants have the chance to win one of three £20,000 prizes to invest in developing their product.

Commenting on his appointment, Paing Khant said:

‘The Mayor of London’s Entrepreneur Competition is a tremendous opportunity for university students across London to pool their collective entrepreneurial talents, not only to create viable businesses but also to demonstrate how innovative business solutions can be applied to solve social and environmental problems. I feel honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity by the Mayor’s Entrepreneur Delivery Team. I sincerely thank all my tutors for their invaluable mentorship and encouragement in pursuing my entrepreneurial aspirations.’

Paing – who’s currently studying Business Management with Entrepreneurship – is also the President and co-founder of UWL’s Entrepreneurship Society, and has even used skills and knowledge gained at UWL to start his own company: Padauk Foods, which aims to be a bulk provider of quality Burmese ingredients in the United Kingdom. In his first year at UWL, Paing won the Brentford Chamber of Commerce prize for his unique business idea of sharing the iconic Burmese dish, Lahpet, with the world.
