Students follow previous Guildhall singers Johannes Kammler, Joshua Mills, Milan Siljanov and Anna Rajah to be selected for the Opera Studio.

Caspar Singh (tenor, BMus 4 Vocal Studies, student of Adrian Thompson & Susan Waters) and Mirjam Mesak (soprano, Masters Vocal Studies, student of Prof. Rudolf Piernay) have both been selected for the Bayerische Staatsoper (Munich) Opera Studio for the 2018/19 season.

The Opera Studio was created in 2006/7, supporting highly talented young artists and preparing them for an international career in step with actual practice. Under general manager Nikolaus Bachler, this promotion of young artists continues to play an important role in the success of the Bayerische Staatsoper, one of the world’s oldest opera houses.

The Opera Studio program runs one to two seasons and consists of role studies, vocal lessons, acting and movement classes as well as language training. The young artists are cast for small roles in productions on the main stage and take part in several concert projects. They also work together with professional singers and conductors and have the opportunity to attend main stage rehearsals and performances. Workshops with staff members from different departments of the Staatsoper on subjects like career development complete the training program.

Head of Vocal Studies Armin Zanner said: “Many congratulations to Caspar and Mirjam. To progress from our Vocal programme at Guildhall to the studio at one of the world’s major opera companies is an ideal stepping stone into the profession and an ambition of many trainee singers. I’m delighted for Caspar and Mirjam, and happy that their success continues our connection with the Munich Opera Studio.”

Previous Guildhall singers selected for the Opera Studio include Johannes Kammler, Joshua Mills, Milan Siljanov and Anna Rajah.
