Ravensbourne commended for “excellent” teaching and learning quality in the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF)

Ravensbourne has received a Silver award for its excellent quality of teaching and learning from the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

The institution, which specialises in digital media and design, was commended for its commitment to widening participation and recruiting students from a diverse range of backgrounds, high levels of practice-based approaches to learning such as industry projects, combined with excellent digital resources. Further reflection showed Ravensbourne demonstrated systematic and reflective support for innovation-based learning and highly valued input into course design by academic staff and staff in professional services. The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) administered the award and further feedback stated that extensive industry collaboration and specialised course design combined, had resulted in graduates’ excellent 95.3 per cent employability rate*.

Director, Linda Drew said:

“I’m extremely proud of this achievement which is a very positive step for Ravensbourne. This award supports the reputation we have established of distinctive excellence in the creative industries.

“I’d like to pay tribute to all colleagues who have been recognised for their contributions to outstanding teaching which has resulted in excellent outcomes for our students.”

The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) was introduced by the Department for Education to reward excellent teaching and learning. It enables the government to monitor and assess the quality of teaching in England’s universities/higher education institutions.

Many notable people have been educated at Ravensbourne, alumni include Oscar winner Gareth Unwin, Producer of “The King’s Speech”, award-winning designer of the Olympic torch Jay Osgerby and fashion designer Stella McCartney.
