Alumni Adriane Jimenez Escarfullery and Dagna Kołodyńska were awarded 1st prize and $5000 in the “Master Plan 2017 International Architectural Competition” in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for their project “Coral Forest”.

The competition asks participants to create ground-breaking and inventive projects with the intention of provoking and questioning our perceived notions of hospitality.

Adriane graduated from Ravensbourne with a BA (Hons) Architecture degree in 2016. He was the principal designer on the project and worked in a team with fellow graduate Dagna who studied BA (Hons) Interior Design Environment Architectures (IDEA).

Principal Designer, Adriane said: “I started getting involved in competitions at Ravensbourne and after winning a competition, which saw me travel to Budapest, Dubai and San Francisco I was inspired to continue. This led me to the Puerto Vallarta competition and I was really excited to connect and share knowledge with other talented architects.

“It feels amazing for us to have won first prize and it has motivated me to get involved in future projects. I am saving up so that I am able to start my masters next year and the prize money will be going towards this.

“My time at Ravensbourne has been so beneficial. It was great to have tutors like Layton Reid and Idrees Rasouli who encouraged us to participate in new projects and challenging competitions, and provided the knowledge to create an innovative project. My advice to current and future Ravensbourne students would be to take advantage of all of the knowledge, experience and collaboration opportunities available to them.

Layton Reid, Associate Dean IDEA/Architecture, regularly collaborates with students and alumni and mentored Adriane and Dagna on the project. Layton said: “I’m incredibly proud of Adriane, Dagna and the team on their win.

“It has been a pleasure collaborating with Ravensbourne graduates and professionals as it gives us the opportunity to look at new agendas in architecture and design.”
