As increasing numbers of students are undertaking and gaining their PhD’s, traditional career routes within academia are contracting and changing, and finding a “standard” entry level job within the academy is increasingly challenging.  Early career researchers are having to become ever more creative, skilled and resilient in order to secure their first academic post.  Interesting and stimulating entry level jobs do still exist of course, and changing times are opening up new opportunities to work within and engage with the academy, however, a range of non-academic skills are needed to shine within this competitive and fast moving arena.

Whilst not every doctoral candidate or ECR wants a full time academic career, many do, and if you are one of them, how can you maximise your chances and give yourself the edge?
This informal session led my Professor Carole-Anne Upton, Dr Patrick Duggan and Dr Peter Mitchell will help identify key challenges in making the transition from doctoral student to early career researcher, examine the key challenges and opportunities in developing your academic career against a background of regulatory, legislative and ideological change and provide practical suggestions in how best to prepare for the challenges ahead and find yourself a great first job.

The evening will end with networking drinks.

Please note:
Purchased tickets are non-refundable.
Attendees are asked to arrive from 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
