This walking workshop explores the relationship between the GPS satellite network and the way a sense of location is constructed by both people and machines.

We will walk around the Barbican Estate while using an app that provides diagnostic information about how many GPS satellites are in view and the accuracy of the location fix.

One of the aims of the workshop is to speculate on how the GPS network sees ground level space. Also to explore what other senses can establish a sense of place.

You will have the opportunity to draw or write creatively to imagine a satellite’s eye view of the Barbican. We will also be joined by an architectural tour guide at the Barbican, who will give a short overview of the history of the estate. The workshop will end with a group discussion about the event.

This walk will start and end at the Barbican Centre.

Drawing / writing materials will be provided.
