Shirley Smart is fast becoming known as one of the UK’s most versatile and creative cellists – being equally at home and well versed in classical, jazz and middle Eastern music. With her ensemble she presents a fresh new approach to the cello, taking the listener on an improvised journey incorporating music from North Africa, Middle East, Balkans, and South America, and jazz as well as original compositions.
She is joined this evening by Maurizio Minardi on piano and accordion – “One of the finest pianists on the UK scene” – (Rainlores World of Music), and drummer/percussionist Demi Garcia Sabat.
Looking forward @JS_Diaspora opening a discussion with stimulus from award winning film #MyNameIs @mynameisdocu on 'Decolonising the self before we can decolonise HE & culture' @RADA_London via @InfoTCCE tomorrow as part of a broader event from 1pm to 3pm.
