2016 sees the eleventh Runnymede International Literary Festival.  As in previous years, the Runnymede International Literary Association, in partnership with Runnymede Borough Council and Royal Holloway, University of London, is bringing a programme of literary activities to Runnymede. They are also working with a new partner, Surrey County Libraries.

This year’s Festival has three main themes: the centenary of World War 1; the 400^th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth; and the human rights theme that was part of the celebration of Magna Carta last year.  The Festival also introduces what they hope will become a regular feature in future years: a Readers’ Day, which will provide the opportunity to discuss recent novels with their authors. Dr Santanu Das, from King’s College London, will begin the day with an account of the Indian contribution to World War 1. Catherine Hall, Jill McGivering and Andrew Williams will discuss their recent war novels; and Kate Williams, Susanna Jones and Andrew Williams will talk about writing historical fiction. The day will close with an opportunity to discuss their recent novels with Kate Williams, Susanna Jones and Anna Whitwham.

The 400^th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth will be celebrated by a reading of Henry IV organised by Harry Newman and by a lecture on the real Henry IV by Dr Catherine Nall.
