Magna Carta’s 800th Anniversary:
Engaging Local Audiences

Nurturing strong partnerships for community arts and debate -Making funding reach further

Royal Holloway and Surrey Arts, part of Surrey County Council, have worked closely together over a 2 year period to establish a number of new initiatives and programmes designed to engage local audiences – in particular young people and families – in a celebration of Magna Carta’s 800th anniversary, and an exploration of its continuing relevance.

In this workshop, we talk through the strategies used to secure funding, how this helped leverage additional support from other funders as well as in kind support, and the techniques and tenacity required to generate an effective ‘buzz’ around the work on a tiny marketing budget.

We will share our experiences of weaving arts and ideas together to create an exciting and engaging programme that helps artists and academics develop their research and practice.

Workshop Leaders:
Diana Edmunds
(Magna Carta Festival Manager, Royal Holloway, University of London) and Aimee Fairhurst (Programme Manager: Arts in Education & Drama, Surrey Arts).
