7th February, 2014 / 11.00am - 4.00pm
21st May, 2015
In conjunction with the Institute of Musical Research. The Middle East and Central Asia Music forum is open to researchers, students and anyone interested in the music and culture of the region. In the spirit of fostering dialogue and interdisciplinarity, we hope that the issues discussed at the forum will be of interest to a broad audience, including musicologists, ethnomusicologists and other researchers in the arts, humanities and social sciences. In addition, we welcome those working on other aspects of Middle Eastern and Central Asian culture broadly speaking (dance, visual arts, media, film, literature, etc.)
The event will include a book launch at 6pm: Laudan Nooshin ‘Iranian Classical Music: The Discourses and Practice of Creativity’ (Ashgate Press, SOAS Musicology Series, published February 2015); and a concert Sounds of the Bosphorus Today (see below for information) with performers Neva Özgen, kemençe and Yelda Özgen, cello.
Looking forward @JS_Diaspora opening a discussion with stimulus from award winning film #MyNameIs @mynameisdocu on 'Decolonising the self before we can decolonise HE & culture' @RADA_London via @InfoTCCE tomorrow as part of a broader event from 1pm to 3pm.
