TCCE Annual Conference – ‘Culture, Creativity and the Academy: Exploring the New Normal’

Date: Tuesday 14th July 2015

Venue: Guildhall School of Music & Drama
Milton Court, (main entrance) corner of Milton Street / Silk Street, London EC2Y 9BH

TCCE is a pioneering organisation that, for the last decade, has been at the leading edge of developments in Knowledge Exchange, collaboration development and networking in the fertile ground between Higher Education and the Arts, Cultural and Creative Industries. Our annual conference is a unique forum that brings together representatives from higher education, the arts, cultural and creative sectors and the wider worlds of policy and business. The timely theme for this year’s conference, as we celebrate our 10th anniversary, is: Culture, Creativity and the Academy: Exploring the New Normal.

A decade ago, whilst there were some strong and very exciting partnerships between the Arts, Cultural and Creative industries and Higher Education, such work was arguably more the exception than the rule. Now, however, it is the case that collaborations between these sectors are developing apace and that such work is increasingly becoming the ‘new normal’.

Culture, Creativity and the Academy: Exploring the New Normal, presented in partnership with Guildhall School of Music & Drama, sets out to examine to what extent this actually is the case and if so what does ‘the new normal’ look like, what are its characteristics, who’s doing it, how does it come about and why is it important, particularly now.

Drawing on initiatives from across the UK, Culture, Creativity and The Academy: Exploring the New Normal aims to create a picture of key developments over the last decade. Furthermore it will start the process of building a roadmap for the decade to come with topics for discussion including:

  • Successful partnerships: What models are out there and how do they work?
  • Public funding and collaboration: Joining the dots
  • Universities and the social contract: Working together for the wider good
  • Moving forward: A blueprint for the future

Culture, Creativity and the Academy: Exploring the New Normal will be of interest to those working in academia, the cultural and creative industries, policy-makers and those interested in the role of research and innovation more widely.
