‘We’re warriors. Philosophical warriors. We’re fighting in a war of ideas.’
Using dynamic, contemporary language to tell one of the greatest love stories of the Middle Ages, that of Abelard and Heloise, Howard Brenton’s In Extremis also explores the relationships between logic and religion, humanism and fundamentalism, faith and power. But all wars have casualties, even wars of ideas.
