Housewives with Steak-knives (1985) by Sutapa Biswas is currently showing at Keywords: Art, Culture & Society in 1980s Britain, curated by Gavin Delahunty (Tate) and Grant Watson (inIVA, London), Tate Liverpool, UK. Reflecting on the period from 1976 to 1996, this key exhibition recounts, “the emergence of identity [class, race, gender and sexuality] as a subject pertinent to political, aesthetic and artistic practices”, and highly relevant, therefore, to today’s complex geopolitical, visual, historical and cultural discourses.
