Romania 1989. Revolution is coming, as the feared and hated Nicolae Ceausescu slowly loses his grip on power after almost 25 years of dictatorship. But who is behind the revolution? The people? The army? Or the notorious Securitate – Ceausescu’s own secret police. Based on a visit to Romania only weeks after the revolution by playwright Caryl Churchill and Central student actors, the play charts the reactions of two families to the unfolding events both before and after the toppling of Ceausescu. Mad Forest premiered at Central in June 1990 with a cast of final year students.
