Man, Beast And Virtue moves at a breathtaking pace and is inhabited by a menagerie of hilarious and grotesque characters. The plot centers on Paolino, a schoolteacher who believes himself to be a man of intelligence and irreproachable honour, and his lover Mrs Perella, a timid woman who has just discovered that she is expecting Paolino’s child.
Her husband, the ‘beast’, a rough sea captain is due back in town for one night only. The desperate lovers must ensure that Captain Perella sleeps with his ‘virtuous’ wife, or all semblance of honour will be lost.
