Event Details

Date:
2nd December, 2005
Time:
09:30 - 16:30
Venue:
Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 1LA

There have always been partnerships between universities and museums for research and teaching purposes. Many universities have museums and many museums which have academic staff. Increasingly the relationship between Higher Education and the Museums sector is becoming formalised; for example, funding opportunities have arisen through the Arts and Humanities Research Council specifically for work with museums and galleries. In response to this, the London Centre for Arts and Cultural Exchange and ALM London hosted a day long seminar at Courtauld Institute which explored the topic of collaboration between the two sectors. The day investigated case studies of existing collaborations, digital technology and collections, the evolution of collaborations and opportunities for new initiatives.

Contributors/Speakers: Christopher Naylor, Project Director, Social Enterprise and Regeneration in the Department of Cultural Policy and Management at City University; Dr David Green, Senior Lecturer, Kings College London; Angela Murphy, Courtauld Institute of Art; Fiona Candlin, Lead Lecturer for the Birkbeck and British Museum collaboration, World Arts and Artefacts.
