A Cross-School research team from the School of Science & Technology and School of Health & Psychological Sciences have been successful with their application to the EPSRC to fund their research project, Inclusive Data Visualisation for Human-Centred Decision-Making.

The research team comprises Professor Stephanie WilsonDr Madeline CruiceProfessor Joseph WoodProfessor Nicola Botting, and Dr Abi Roper.

They have been awarded over £609k for a three-year project to investigate and create inclusive data visualisations to enable decision-making for people with communication impairments and developmental disorders.

The project will address the issue of the exclusion of people with disabilities from data visualisation, in direct response to a call to action for the visualisation research community to pay attention to the needs of users with disabilities (Marriott et al, 2021).

The researchers are expecting to deliver new knowledge about how people with communication and cognitive impairments experience data visualisations; new, accessible, interactive data visualisations; accessibility guidelines for more inclusive data visualisations; methods and prototype tools for creating inclusive data visualisations.

The project will be undertaken in partnership with Raising Awareness of Developmental Language DisorderSay Aphasia and Stroke Association.
