Blood flowed/Stronger than water
Lorca’s expressionist masterpiece, written on the eve of the Spanish Civil War, remade for the present moment in a new translation by Ben Naylor and Paula Rodriguez. A desolate landscape: the drylands, the vineyard, the creek, the church. The ancient tyrannies of family, land, property, honour, obsession, entitlement. And at the bleeding heart of it all, a bride and a groom, the unforgiving sun and the vengeful moon.
