We are delighted to welcome author Danielle Jawando to City, University of London. Danielle will read from and discuss her new book When Our Worlds Collided (Simon and Schuster, 2022). She will be in conversation with Dr Hetta Howes and will take questions from the audience.
Danielle Jawando’s debut YA novel, And the Stars Were Burning Brightly (Simon and Schuster, 2020), was shortlisted for multiple awards, including the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize and the YA Book Prize. She has had several short plays performed in Manchester and London and has worked as a storyline writer for Coronation Street, as well as publishing a biography of Maya Angelou for children.
Her new book, When Our Worlds Collided, is a powerful coming-of-age story about chance encounters, injustice, and how the choices that we make can completely change our future. When fourteen-year old Shaq is stabbed outside of a busy shopping centre in Manchester, three teenagers from very different walks of life are unexpectedly brought together. What follows flips their worlds upside down and makes them question the deep-rooted prejudice and racism that exists within the police, the media, and the rest of society.
