City, University of London has moved up 14 places to 40th in the Complete University Guide (CUG) 2023. City is one of the biggest improvers in the top half of the table.
The CUG is a key league table for prospective students making their decision about which university to choose, particularly UK students applying for undergraduate study. Its methodology looks at both a university’s student offer and the quality of its research.
City’s recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) results and improvements in graduate prospects have contributed significantly to the improved CUG ranking.
Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein, President of City, University of London said:
“This is great news and testament to the hard work and commitment of all colleagues at City. Our recent excellent REF results and our focus on helping our students go on to get great jobs have both contributed to our improved ranking”.
The online CUG attracts over ten million visitors each year. The main league table is based on ten measures: Entry Standards, Student Satisfaction, Research Quality, Research Intensity, Graduate Prospects – outcomes, Graduate Prospects – on track, Student-Staff Ratio, Spending on Academic Services, Spending on Student Facilities, and Completion. It includes 130 institutions.
In this year’s ranking, City is:
City’s strong performance in the graduate prospects metrics has been underpinned by a long-standing commitment to supporting the employability of our students, captured in our existing institutional employability strategy, the Employability Development Plan which has led to the integration of Career Focus Education and professional experience in all UG programmes.
City’s ranking against both graduate prospects metrics has increased by 22 places. The ‘on track’ performance is judged by feedback from graduates themselves about how satisfied they are with their career progression so far.
