Rebel Dykes is a full-length documentary about the explosion that happened when punk met feminism, told through the lives of a gang of lesbians in the riotous London of the 1980s.
It follows a close-knit group of friends who met at the Greenham Common peace camp and later became artists, performers, music-makers and activists in London, eventually laying the groundwork for today’s LGBTIQ community with their sex-positive rebellion.
A heady mix of animation, archival footage and interviews tells the story of a radical scene: squatters, BDSM nightclubs, anti-Thatcher rallies, protests demanding action on AIDS and the strong ties to a chosen family.
Rebel Dykes is an extraordinary insight into a bygone world of people who not only lived their politics out of deepest conviction, but also lived to tell about it.
