It is a known fact that the covert fascist in everyone appreciates clearly defined categories, not those murky shades in between.

Tom works in advertising. Only temporarily while he writes his book.

But he’s just been offered a lucrative contract with a big pharmaceutical company and Sophie is offering him an ultimatum; take the job and she leaves.

The choices they make, and the events of that day, will change their lives forever.

They flit between this and the late 90s on the Greek island of Patmos where another moral drama is being played out. Edward, an Anglican bishop, is under pressure from a Kenyan cleric not to quit the church over its inflexible attitude to homosexuality.

This epic drama explores the relationship between beliefs and capitalism and asks fundamental questions about identity, faith and the meaning of love.
