The University of West London (UWL)’s flagship research journal has relaunched on a new online platform to offer open and easy access to sector-leading papers and articles.

New Vistas provides analysis, commentary and research on policy and practice in higher education and is now available as a full Gold open access journal, continuing the University’s commitment to creating and sharing high-quality commentary and supporting early-career researchers and scholars.

The bi-annual publication is now hosted on a new online platform, making it easier for researchers and students to access and submit journal articles, and for content to be shared across the academic community.

Still accessible for free from anywhere in the world, New Vistas now offers open access under the use of Creative Commons licensing – with a new user interface to offer efficient submission and manuscript management workflow. Dr Erik Blair, Editor of New Vistas, said:

With this new online platform we are now fully accessible; authors can submit work in a modern and efficient manner and readers around the world will have easy and regular access to our impactful and amazing research.

UWL Press has migrated New Vistas to the Janeway platform – a next-generation, open-source software developed and served by the team which runs the Open Library of Humanities. Andrew Preater, Director of Library Services at UWL, said:

We’re delighted to be migrating New Vistas to the Janeway platform to provide a high-quality platform for open access publishing for the University – this content is free and open source software which reflects the University’s commitment to openness in research and scholarship.

New Vistas was first published as a printed journal in March 2015, with two editions released each year in the spring and autumn. It invites contributions from UWL academics and doctoral students, as well as external authors.

The journal’s aim is to showcase research in a modern university as it impacts society, industry, and services; supporting early-career researchers and scholars who are central to this endeavour.
