The topic will revolve around how critical museology has been dominated by a largely human-centred mode of enquiry since it emerged 35 years ago.

With a few notable exceptions, until recently little attention has been focused on what is now being termed the climate and ecological emergency. He will discuss ways in which critical approaches to this phenomenon can both illuminate museology as a subject and influence practice in museums.

CCHS operates as an inter-faculty research centre led by the UCL Institute of Archaeology and supported by the Institute of Advanced Studies in partnership with the University of Gothenburg. It will lead the way in defining a new field of critical heritage studies which identifies and interprets evolving, multi-scalar forms of heritage and identity, and addresses issues of heritage justice.
