London South Bank University leaps 21 places in Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020

London South Bank University

London South Bank University (LSBU) has leapt an impressive 21 places up the national league table in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020, entering the top 100 for the first time.

LSBU has made significant progress in relation to student satisfaction and teaching quality, which, for the first time, has taken the University into the top 100 places overall. The guide indicates a rise for LSBU of 43 places for satisfaction with teaching quality and an additional significant increase regarding the broader student experience.

LSBU is now 86th out of 134 universities in the national league table, ahead of its nearest London competitors, University of East London (UEL), Kingston, Westminster and Middlesex.

These results show that LSBU continues to challenge the most prestigious institutions on the salaries secured by our graduates. More than half are mature students, many of whom go on to enter well-paid careers. LSBU’s School of Health and Social Care (HSC) is one of just ten institutions nationally with the highest rating from the Nursing & Midwifery Council.  The School of Health and Social Care (HSC) also ranks first in London for graduate prospects in nursing.

LSBU was University of the Year for Graduate Employment in 2018 for the second time in a row, an accolade which may be responsible for a 4.7% surge in applications this year. The University now ranks fourth for graduate prospects, beaten only by St George’s, London (predominantly a medical school), Imperial College and Lancaster.

Responding to the good news, David Phoenix, Vice-Chancellor of LSBU said:

“I’m delighted to see that the Sunday Times Good University Guide results shows that LSBU is continuing on a successful upward trajectory. This leap of 21 places in the national league table, is thoroughly well deserved and is a testament to all of the dedication and hard work put in by our highly committed staff and students.

“LSBU continues to challenge the UK’s most prestigious higher education institutions, both inside the Capital and nationally, proving that our high quality teaching and research is helping to turn out robust, top class graduates, able to thrive in a competitive global jobs market.”
