New service connecting LJMU’s student talent to Merseyside business gets underway

As a major development towards LJMU’s goal of more readily matching student and graduate talent to the needs of Merseyside businesses, we have entered into an agreement with Unitemps to establish a specialist recruitment service for the region.

Started by the University of Warwick in 1997, Unitemps is a network of university-owned, campus-based recruitment services which seek to address key challenges in the modern workforce and within higher education. It helps supports LJMU’s focus on employability skills and post-study outcomes for graduates.

Mark Power, our Interim-Vice Chancellor, reflected on this development:

We are passionate about providing opportunities for our students to access paid work that strengthens their CV, their employability skills, commercial awareness and the stories they can tell employers in interviews. At the same time, we are simplifying routes to accessing degree-level talent for Liverpool City Region businesses.

Our goal in supporting our students is matched by our commitment to connecting local businesses to students for part-term and seasonal roles and, in time, to skilled graduates as businesses seek to grow and make the most of their workforce.

Mark Power finalised the Unitemps agreement this week with Warwick University Enterprises’ Franchise Relationship Manager Lorna Bytheway, launching the process through which a wholly owned subsidiary company will be created.

Unitemps Merseyside will provide a structure through which staff in LJMU can recruit students and graduates to join the institution’s own workforce, as well as providing a new front door for businesses across the Liverpool City Region.
