An honorary academic at University of West London (UWL), Professor Zenobia Nadirshaw, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list for her services to people with learning disabilities and mental health treatment.

Professor Anthony Woodman, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost for Health said the award was: “A well-deserved recognition of a career spent campaigning for the benefit of some of the most vulnerable in our society.

“We are fortunate to count Professor Nadirshaw’s as one of our Honorary Doctorates and very proud of her many achievements. The MBE is testament to her enormous enthusiasm and drive to deliver improved health outcomes for many and her distinguished contribution to clinical psychology.

“She is just the kind of academic who makes UWL such an excellent learning and teaching experience.”

An Honorary Life Member of the British Psychological Society, Professor Nadirshaw is a consultant clinical psychologist with 40 years of clinical and management experience in NHS health and social care services.

Professor Zenobia Nadirshaw has been campaigning tirelessly to raise the profile of ethnic minority issues and has had a major influence on service delivery and on the training and competencies that help psychologists work effectively in a multicultural, multi-ethnic British context.

The New Year Honours list this year also included supermodel Twiggy, footballer Harry Kane and England manager Gareth Southgate.
