Ravensbourne students nominated for the RIBA Bronze Medal

Two Ravensbourne students were nominated for the Royal Institute of British Architects’ (RIBA) Bronze Medal, part of the global professional body’s esteemed President’s Medals scheme for graduating architecture students worldwide.

Jay Jordan, BA (Hons) Interior Design Environment Architectures and Jed Maiden, BA (Hons) Architecture were nominated for the Bronze Medal; an award reserved for BA Honours degree candidates from educational institutes across the globe. Jay’s ‘197 Farm Road’ project aims to celebrate and empower the marginalised post-industrial communities of east London’s docklands, while Jed developed plans to convert a brownfield industrial site into an urban park and music centre.

The entries were judged by a panel including David Gloster, Director of Education at RIBA, registered architect and visiting scholar to Columbia and Princeton Universities, Izaskun Chinchilla and Tracey Meller, Partner at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.

As part of the President’s Medals celebrations, Jay had his project exhibited outside the RIBA President’s office at Portland Place, making one of just 25 BA level projects in the world selected for display.

Commenting, Jay said: “It’s great to be nominated for this award and a real honour to have my work displayed at RIBA’s offices. I always hoped from my first visit to RIBA that my work might be displayed there one day. I appreciate the support and opportunities my tutors at Ravensbourne offered, and hope to be the best designer I can be.”

Commenting, Layton Reid, Associate Dean for the Department of Architecture said: “I’m incredibly proud of Jay and Jed for their exceptional creativity and endless hard work. They did a great job on their applications for the RIBA Bronze Medal, and I have no doubt they will both go on to achieve great things in the future.”
