Join this discussion on young people and entrepreneurship.

Presented by Julie Haddock-Millar; Chandana Sanyal (Management, Leadership and Organisations – MLO, MUBS), Leandro Sepulveda; Stephen Syrett; Robyn Owen (Centre for Enterprise and Economic Development Research – CEEDR, MUBS), Neil Kaye (Social Policy Research Centre, School of Law) and David Deakins (Lancaster University). Growing evidence suggests that young people are increasingly choosing entrepreneurship and self-employment in preference to other forms of employment (Greene, 2005) and are more positive about entrepreneurial opportunities (YBI/GEM, 2013). This paper presents findings from an ongoing study entitled ‘Exploring the impacts of volunteer business mentoring on young entrepreneurs’. Middlesex University Business School and the Centre for Enterprise and Economic Development Research (CEEDR) were commissioned by Youth Business International (YBI) in November 2015 to conduct a global longitudinal study to understand ‘what works, where and why’ of how YBI’s voluntary business mentoring (VBM) assists young undeserved entrepreneurs, both in terms of their business start-up and growth and their personal development and entrepreneurial journey. YBI is the global network of organisations supporting undeserved young entrepreneurs, with headquarters in London, which mission is ‘to turn entrepreneurial ideas into successful businesses, creating jobs and strengthening communities’.
