London South Bank University (LSBU) is the newest signatory to the Global Campus Network (GCN); an initiative of Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.

The GCN began in 2010 as a hub for global collaborative media education.

The signing means LSBU students will be able to connect to students in destinations as far ranging as Brazil, India, Russia and New Zealand in high definition video with zero delay to create content for the network.

This is the latest milestone of continued collaboration between the two universities, which began as a partnership between LSBU’s School of Arts and Creative Industries (ACI) and Ryerson’s Faculty of Communication and Design (FCAD) in 2015.

Dean of ACI, Professor Janet Jones, said:

“We created this partnership strategically to stimulate academic research, enterprise and exchange across all the areas to do with creative communication, and when we found out about the Global Campus Network, we very quickly discovered it would be an amazing tool in our journalism programmes, and even wider.

“Our journalism students have taken part in three live shows to date, most recently in October on student activism, anchoring all three shows from our newsroom on campus, and we look forward to using the GCN to create more regular shows and for future research projects.”

Dean of FCAD, Charles Falzon, said:

“We look at London as a hub of creative industries, and our partnership with LSBU is a really important building block for us.

“We now have 22 universities on the Global Campus Network, and it is about collaborative creativity. With all the changes and ambiguity in the world, how amazingly hopeful one feels when you have hundreds of young creative innovators collaborating with each other to create new narratives and shared experiences.”

Earlier this year, LSBU and Ryerson University created the Live Portal project which connected the London and Toronto city centres.
