Guildhall musicians explore the extraordinary chamber music of composer and Guildhall professor Julian Anderson as part of the BBC’s Total Immersion day.
Four chamber works span 21 years of Julian Anderson’s compositional output: The Colour of Pomegranates for alto flute and piano is the earliest work here, while Van Gogh Blue (inspired by the exuberance of many of the letters of the Dutch artist) and Ring Dance show Anderson’s most recent musical voice.
Poetry Nearing Silence was inspired by the paintings of Tom Phillips which in turn were created by painting over an obscure Victorian novel: it’s a magical score full of extraordinary sounds and textures.
