This lecture performance by Judaica Laboratory offers new strategies for articulating the inner dramaturgy and embodied knowledges of actor and performer training practices.

Drawing on discoveries made during the 2017 intensive laboratory phase of the ‘Judaica’ research project (AHRC 2016-2018), the trio of international researchers will present two key components of this innovative practice research method: working configurations and transversal video. This will serve to open a discussion on the potential of audiovisual media to enrich conversations of import to performers and performer trainers.

Key points of interest include relations: between different forms of actor training; between personal and professional training; and between embodied practice, written texts, and audiovisual documents. Following the presentation of Judaica project materials, there will be an open discussion with time to focus on issues that pertain directly to the training and research interests of RCSSD staff and students.

Ben Spatz (UK/US) is Senior Lecturer in Drama, Theatre and Performance at the University of Huddersfield; Nazlıhan Eda Erçin (UK/Turkey) is a performer, researcher and educator pursuing a practice-based PhD degree in Drama at the University of Exeter.  Agnieszka Mendel (UK/Poland) is a singer, actress, ethnologist, voice and theatre teacher.
