UWL is London’s top university for graduate employment, says new HESA data

Over 97% of University of West London (UWL) graduates are in employment or further study within six months of graduation, making UWL one of the top ten institutions in the country for employability, and the best performing multi-faculty university in London. UWL’s return of 97.1% is set out in the new Employment Performance Indicators (EPI) figures for 2015/16 graduates, published today by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

The new performance indicators place UWL among the top three multi-faculty universities nationwide, with 97.1% of its graduates in employment or further study within six months of graduation, an increase of 1% on its return for 2014/15, and 2.9% above the average for English universities of 94.2%. This is the seventh consecutive year that UWL has improved its employability score, demonstrating the university’s sustained track record in employability.

UWL has the highest response rate for multi-faculty universities in England at 84.5%, and one of the highest graduate populations in the top 10 with 1,055 leavers in employment or further study.

UWL is also one of only seven universities to significantly exceed its benchmark, an expected position taking into account factors such as subject mix, entry qualifications, ethnicity and gender, with a return 4.3% above its benchmark position. This is the seventh year that UWL has surpassed its benchmark by at least 3%.

UWL’s employability performance from part-time first degree graduates is also extremely strong at 99%, making the institution one of the top ten in England on this measure as well as the top modern university in London.

Professor Peter John, UWL Vice-Chancellor, said: ‘UWL has an outstanding record of getting its students into employment, underlined by the exceptional outcome announced today by HESA. We aim to be the university with the highest graduate employment rate in the UK by 2018, and these figures demonstrate we are already very close to achieving that objective.

‘We are The Career University, and we work exceptionally hard to support our students and get them into rewarding and fulfilling employment from their first day at UWL. We offer career-focused teaching developed for today’s jobs market, impressive links with industry, and outstanding support all the way through their time at UWL.’
