The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama invites you to the launch of Applied Theatre: Performing Health and Wellbeing (Methuen, 2017).
Edited by Katharine Low and Veronica Baxter, Applied Theatre: Performing Health and Wellbeing is the first volume in the field to address the role that theatre, drama and performance have in relation to promoting, developing and sustaining health and wellbeing in diverse communities. Challenging concepts and understanding of health, wellbeing and illness, it offers insight into different approaches to major health issues through applied performance.
Gathering together some of the artists and researchers who contributed to the edited collection (including Dr Caoimhe McAvinchey, Sue Mayo, Dr Nandita Dinesh, Dr Zoe Zontou and others), Katharine and her colleagues will debate some of the key ideas addressed in the book and consider the timely need for making art in and for health. Dr Emma Brodzinski will act as respondent to the debate. The launch is an opportunity to bring together some of contributors and to extend the discussion with a wider audience.
Katharine E. Low is a practitioner and researcher in applied theatre, specializing in sexual and reproductive health and the role of women in theatre. She is a lecturer in Applied Theatre and Community Performance here at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She has facilitated practice in Tanzania, South Africa and the UK.
