Breaking the Chains is an ethnographic photo/film-documentary project about human rights violations against people with mental illness.
It depicts the use of physical restraint and confinement of people with mental illness in Indonesia, a practice known as pasung in this country but widespread also in other low-middle income countries.
The film contributes to an understanding of pasung, the reasons behind this practice, and the issues that must be overcome to eradicate this human rights abuse.
The session will be chaired by Dr Lisa Marzano, Associate Professor in Psychology at Middlesex University, and the screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the author, Dr Erminia Colucci, with a reception.
Looking forward @JS_Diaspora opening a discussion with stimulus from award winning film #MyNameIs @mynameisdocu on 'Decolonising the self before we can decolonise HE & culture' @RADA_London via @InfoTCCE tomorrow as part of a broader event from 1pm to 3pm.
