Lecturer in Creative Social Media

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Creative Social Media in the Department of Media Arts.

The Department invites applicants for the above post to take a role in growing its undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research in the area of digital media, offering a specific expertise in social media. They will bring a creative practice specialism that aligns social media with the department’s core strength in audio-visual storytelling, particularly as it relates to film and television. They will be able to bridge gaps in research and teaching between our highly successful BA Film, Television and Digital Media and our new programme in BA/BSc Digital Media Communications, offering complementary skills to our current team. The post is available as either Lecturer (research and teaching) or Teaching Fellow (teaching focused) appointment. Candidates applying for the Lecturer (research and teaching) pathway should have a developing record of high quality research and/or the ability to translate professional production experience in social media into a viable research plan.

The successful candidate will provide innovative teaching in the creative use of social for storytelling, communications and artistic work. They will work across a dynamic department that spans theory and practice, creative and critical research that was ranked in the top 10 UK institutions for media research in the REF2014. As such, the role requires the post holder to bring a critical knowledge of current industry practice in social media into the practical application of media creation. The essential qualification for this role is educated to PHD level or equivalent or near completion.

Ideally you will have worked in a research or professional environment in which audiovisual media content is connected to social media platforms with demonstrable experience of innovation in the use of such platforms. This may range from short form content production, to citizen journalism, marketing/communications, social television or beyond. You will have technical skills, including some combination of the following: social media analytics, short form video production, marketing/campaigning use of social media, web design and development for the data analysis and visualisation and social media analytics, video editing/post-production, image editing, etc. Lecturer (research and teaching) Candidates should have the ability to translate creative and professional practice into a research context. Ideally, you will be able to strengthen our relationships with media industries.

This is a Part time (0.5 FTE) and permanent post, available from August 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. This post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
