The Guildhall School is pleased to announce that baritone Dominic Sedgwick has been selected by the Royal Opera House as a Jette Parker Young Artist for 2017.
One of five singers selected for the 2017 intake, Dominic will join the two Guildhall singers who continue on the Programme into their second year next season, soprano Francesca Chiejina and tenor Thomas Atkins.
British baritone Dominic was selected from 365 applicants from 61 countries. 67 artists were selected to sing in the first of three rounds with 27 progressing to the second round. Round two involved a one-to-one coaching session with David Gowland, Artistic Director of the Programme.
A final shortlist of 12 singers, which also included Guildhall School singers Daniel Shelvey and Margo Arsane, auditioned first in a rehearsal room and then on the main stage in front of a panel comprising Sir Antonio Pappano, Music Director of The Royal Opera, Oliver Mears, Director of Opera Elect, Peter Katona, Director of Casting, David Gowland, Artistic Director of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, Siri Fischer Hansen, Administrator of the Programme, and international soprano Yvonne Kenny.
Also joining Dominic as Jette Parker Young Artists in September 2017 are American soprano Jacquelyn Stucker, Korean soprano Haegee Lee, Russian mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina, and Korean tenor Kuno Kim.
