Victoria Mapplebeck’s Film London smartphone short film 160 Characters will be screened at Picturehouse Central as part of the 2017 London Short Film Festival.

160 Characters bring to life a three year text thread buried in a vintage Nokia. A story that unfolds in just 100 texts and tells the story of how two people, meet, date, break up and deal with an unplanned pregnancy. 160 Characters uncovers the secrets and stories, buried in our mobiles both old and new. Shot entirely on an iPhone, stories and relationships that were originally mediated through mobile phones were bought to life using the latest in smartphone production techniques. 160 Characters was short listed for the Innovation category of the 2016 AHRC Research in Film Awards. When 160 Characters recently launched on Short of the Week it received a Vimeo Staff pick.

160 Characters is part of Victoria’s cross platform project TEXT ME, an award winning interactive Arts Project, produced in partnership with BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Newcastle. TEXT ME was developed with Creativeworks London and in 2014 won The Merging Media Prize for Best European Cross platform Project and The 2014 Pixel Lab Prize

Victoria is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Media Arts of Royal Holloway University of London, and an award winning artist, writer and film director.
