This concert is a unique opportunity to hear the British premiere of this exquisite work, performed by the violinist it was composed for, Guildhall professor Levon Chilingirian. Completing the programme is Janáček’s charming Suite for String Orchestra, and a late quartet by Beethoven which caused Schubert to famously remark, ‘After this, what is left for us to write?’’
Tigran Mansurian is a leading Armenian composer of classical music and film scores. There is an arresting immediacy to his Second Violin Concerto, a meditation on death that is both haunting and beautiful.
