Students from several departments will join together to perform a programme celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Parisian composer Erik Satie. Featuring the University Singers’ Ensemble, pieces by Satie and his contemporaries will be performed alongside premieres of student compositions inspired by Satie’s music.

Known for his eccentricity, Satie embraced the bohemian lifestyle of Montmatre and frequented the famous Chat Noir cabaret where he made several famous friends who were inspired by his wit and originality.

His music influenced key movements in twentieth-century composition including minimalism and surrealism. Much of Satie’s work revolved around the theatre, and in this performance musical items will be linked by student actors.

This free event is part of the Concerts and Colloquia series put on by the Department of Performing Arts.

Refreshments will be provided.
