Event Details

6th July, 2016
Time:
13:30
Venue:
Ravensfield Theatre Building, Middlesex University
Price:
Free

Building on themes emerging from the ‘What’s in a Name?’ Symposium (Middlesex University, Oct 2015), this research salon offers a space/time for the sharing of practice and ideas across arts disciplines to consider improvisation in terms of ‘transformation’ and ‘otherness’.

The event brings together academics and practitioners to consider joint interests and our aim is to build the network of like-minded people to expand improvisatory discourse.

Format

Arranged as a structured participatory event, there will be a series of short presentations and extracts of performance practice, alongside open conversations and collaboratively generated improvisations.

The event includes a rich array of contributions by invited London based dance artist Rick Nodine (contact improviser), alongside Prof Ben Dwyer (guitarist) and percussionist Simon Limbrick (Middlesex University), Carolyn Roy (dance artist), Hilary Elliott (dancer, University of Huddersfield), Mark Hamilton (world theatre lecturer, Regents University) and Robert Vesty (performance practitioner, Middlesex University), amongst others.

Live Broadcast

The event will be live streamed at @TINsalons, via Twitter (Periscope).

Don’t forget to use the hashtag:  #TINSalonsOne

Attendance is free and open to anyone interested in exploring improvisation across disciplines and through discourse.

Come dressed in clothes suitable for moving and sitting on the floor and do bring along your musical instruments or whatever it is you need for your practice.
